Before You Start

Accessing Mars Market

Follow these steps to safely access Mars Market:

  1. Open your Tor Browser
  2. Set security level to "Safer" or "Safest" (shield icon next to URL bar)
  3. Navigate to our mirrors page to get the current official link
  4. Verify the .onion address matches exactly - check every character
  5. You should see the Mars Market login page with the purple logo

The login page displays "Welcome to MarsMarket" with login fields on the right side. Look for the purple planet logo and familiar interface. If anything looks different or suspicious, do not proceed.

Registration Steps

Click "Create an account"

On the Mars Market login page, locate and click the "Create an account" link. This is typically near the login form.

Choose Your Username

Create a unique username that:

  • Does NOT connect to your real identity in any way
  • Is NOT used on any other platform or marketplace
  • Does NOT contain personal information
  • Is memorable to you but not guessable by others

Create a Strong Password

Your password should be:

  • At least 16 characters long (longer is better)
  • A mix of uppercase, lowercase, numbers, and symbols
  • Completely unique - never used anywhere else
  • Consider using a passphrase of 5-6 random words

Store this password securely (encrypted password manager or written in a safe place).

Solve the Captcha

Mars Market uses captchas to prevent automated account creation. The captcha shows text with visual noise - type the displayed characters exactly as shown. If you can't read it, refresh for a new one.

Complete Registration

Click the registration button to create your account. Save your login credentials immediately before doing anything else.

Setting Up Two-Factor Authentication (2FA)

Enabling 2FA is critical - do this immediately after account creation. Mars Market supports PGP-based 2FA.

How PGP 2FA Works

When you log in with 2FA enabled, Mars Market will encrypt a message with your public key. You must decrypt this message with your private key to complete login. This ensures that even if someone has your password, they cannot access your account without your PGP private key.

Enabling 2FA

  1. Log in to your new Mars Market account
  2. Navigate to Account Settings or Security settings
  3. Find the Two-Factor Authentication option
  4. Enable PGP-based 2FA
  5. Add your PGP public key (see next section)
  6. Complete the verification process

Important: Once 2FA is enabled, you will need your PGP private key to log in. Keep your private key secure and backed up. Losing it means losing access to your account.

Adding Your PGP Public Key

Adding your PGP public key to your profile enables:

  • Two-factor authentication
  • Encrypted communications from vendors
  • Verification of your identity to others
  1. Open your PGP software and export your public key in ASCII armored format
  2. In Mars Market, go to Profile or Account Settings
  3. Find the PGP Public Key field
  4. Paste your entire public key, including the BEGIN and END lines
  5. Save your settings

Important Account Settings

After registration and 2FA setup, configure these important settings:

Security PIN

Some actions require a security PIN for additional protection. Set a PIN that is:

  • Different from your password
  • Not easily guessable (not 1234, birth year, etc.)
  • Stored securely with your other credentials

Withdrawal Address (Optional)

You can pre-configure a withdrawal address for your cryptocurrency. This can include a time delay for additional security - if your account is compromised, the delay gives you time to notice and act.

Privacy Settings

Review your profile visibility and privacy settings. Configure who can see your profile information and activity.

Registration Frequently Asked Questions

No, usernames on Mars Market are permanent and cannot be changed. Choose carefully during registration. If you need a different username, you would need to create a new account.

If a captcha is difficult to read, refresh the page to get a new one. Make sure your Tor Browser security settings aren't blocking elements needed to display the captcha correctly. Some captchas are intentionally difficult - take your time.

Mars Market typically does not require email for registration. The account is secured through your password and PGP-based 2FA instead. This protects your privacy by not requiring any identifying information.

Without email-based recovery, password recovery options are limited. Some markets offer recovery through PGP verification or security questions. Store your credentials securely to avoid this situation. Prevention is the best strategy.
